I'm spending New Year's in Prague. What kind of weather should I expect? Is it very cold or can I bring just a jacket. Thanks, Dori

December Weather in Prague
by: Martina

Hello Dori,

Thanks for taking the time to post your question. New Year's is an exciting time to visit Prague, that's for sure. You'll get some of the atmosphere of Christmas and some new year revelry. And, the Christmas markets will still be open for that last minute gift idea. (Old Town Square has the largest market.)

Anyway, you asked about the weather... well, honestly it will be quite cold. Winter will be in full swing so bring lots of warm clothes - hat, gloves, scarf, warm coat - those kinds of things. Sorry, but a jacket won't be enough.

One short word of advice:

When I worked in a hotel in Prague, I would here guests often talk about the kind of shoes they brought with them and how important this or that one was.

For many guests, this was one of the most important items. If this is true for you too, considering warm socks and good shoes - especially if you plan to be outdoors enjoying the festivities. Having cold feet is just miserable. It's just a thought. I guess that goes for hands too! :-)

Hope you have a warm and enjoyable time in Prague.

All the best,

Martina
