Prague Zoo / Aquarium

What is the best way to get to Prague Zoo? Is it a worthwhile trip out and how much will it cost us. Also does the Prague Card get us free entry or discount? One other thing. Is there an aquarium in Prague?

Many thanks,

Pav

Visiting Prague Zoo

Thanks for your question.

The best way to get to the Prague Zoo is by taking a tram or the metro (C line) to stop Nadrazi Holesovice and taking the 112 bus directly to the zoo from there. This can be a lengthy trek depending on where you're coming from, but if the weather is nice, Prague's zoo is well worth a visit. Our kids love it so much that we buy an annual pass and go as often as possible.

Our favorite way of getting to the zoo is to take the old yet charming Nostalgia Tram 91 to it's end stop Vystaviste. (Runs weekends April-October.) From there, we like to walk through Stromovka Park to the zoo. It's a very nice walk and the tram is absolutely unique.

From April 5 to September 30 there will be a free non-stop shuttle bus to the zoo from Nadrazi Holesovice.

The zoo has a very natural environment which is all on the opposite side of the Vltava River from the main points in central Prague. There's lots of greenery here and the exhibitions and animals are nestled in the surroundings of the immediate area around Troja Chateau and the Botanical Gardens. The Prague Zoo is thankfully NOT like other zoos. It's small enough to enjoy and isn't covered with asphalt foot paths everywhere. And, there's lots for children to do as well - from a splash pool to playgrounds and a little trolley they can ride.

The Prague Card doesn't give you access or discounts to the zoo, but it gives you free entrance to the Troja Chateau across the street from the zoo. If you're taking children with you, the chateau may not be so interesting inside for them. But, they may enjoy the gardens, sculptures and fountain on the grounds.

There is indeed an aquarium in Prague. Frankly, it's not the biggest or most exciting of places, but it's worth a visit if you're really looking for something to do with kids. But if your time is short, I would skip it.

The aquarium goes by the name Morsky Svet (Sea World). It's located at Vystaviste at Stromovka Park.

All the best,

Martina
